Hey, hey, it's okay. I've caused my fair share of sudden fish deaths too. Just calm down, take a deep breath. Rune was definitely happy for the time you had him, since you gave him a big tank with plenty to explore. Most bettas I've seen don't really get that kinda love.

If you really enjoyed having him around, then I'd say yes, find yourself a new friend - but wait until you've calmed down a bit, and don't feel so guilty about Rune. You won't be able to properly love the new fish until you can let the old one go and can just feel happy about having him for the short time that you did.

If you're scared you might do the same thing to another fish, keep this in mind. One, bettas can survive in room temperature water, can't they? You don't need to keep him too warm. If you do want to warm his water up a bit, then treat his water like you would a baby's bath water. People never check baby bath water with their hands - because it's well known that you'll guess the wrong temperature that way. The skin on your hands is the wrong kind of sensitive. Your fingers are too tough. So instead, stick something like your wrist or your elbow in. If it feels noticeably warmer than room temperature, you don't want a fish in it.

I've already made an arrangement with an uncle to go visit his new shipment on Tuesday. He's quite understanding and said he'd set aside an black bettas with colours that come in. He told me they were rare though...but I hope some do come in.

We all make mistakes... It's tough to say he's "just a fish" because pets are partially what you make of them, how you enjoy your time with them, and the joy they bring to you... I would say don't give up, and don't be discouraged by this. When the time is right, you should try again.

I used to think I was death incarnate too... I accidentally killed my cousin's gerbil when it got loose and we were all searching for it.... then my own little bunny of many years... one day i put him back in the cage holding him by his sides and not underneath him and he kicked out so strongly he paralyzed his back and legs and we had to put him to sleep.

I thought i could never have pets because of the horrible and violent mistakes that happened because of me.

Finally I was able to have confidence to have pets myself - i have a hedgehog now. I feel like he's an appropriate pet for me, because he can hurt me as much as I might hurt him. I'm happy with little Frey, and I know you'll find happiness in another pet too.

Very sorry for your loss though, try not to blame yourself too much.

but i say give it another try. Fish are so fragile that any little think can kill them. so don't worry to much.

betas are cool and you are learning. I've had several betas growing up. only named one though. at the time, I liked mortal combat, mainly the character Sub-Zero. So...thats what I named the fish...plus it was blue so it fit...kinda, lol.

oh, and there is some kind of plant that Betas eat the root of. unfortunately, I forgot what kind. but if you researched it, you might could do that. it would make taking care of it easier cause you wouldnt have to feed it. oh, and use Distilled (spelling?) water, it is pretty much bottled water that specifically has nothing in it. it doesnt have any chemicals in it that could hurt the fish.

I got another one today. He's black, blue, and peach. I've decided to name him Melito.

I don't mind feeding fishes but I might get him a little plant so he can play hide and seek with it. Actually,I've been warned not to use bottled water because it has all the minerals removed, including ones that bettas do need. My uncle has told me that tap water is fine so I'm going to follow him on that, considering he has like 35+ years of experience with fishes, lol.

That's cool. I'm glad u got another one. Yea try the tap water. They got chemicals u can use to get rid of the bad chems.
